In December, Kazakhstan will launch a pilot project aimed at supporting citizens receiving targeted social assistance and housing assistance in Shymkent and the West Kazakhstan region, reports the business information center Kapital.kz, referencing the press service of the Ministry of Energy.
"The Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, together with QazaqGaz Aimaq JSC, announces the launch of a pilot project in December 2024 aimed at supporting citizens receiving targeted social assistance (TSA) and housing assistance (HA) in Shymkent and the West Kazakhstan region. As part of the pilot project, residents of these regions who receive TSA and HA will be able to benefit from a discount on commercial gas through the 'Social Wallet' service on the main page of the eGov Mobile application," the industry ministry reports.
As explained, citizens with TSA and HA status will receive SMS notifications from the number 1414 about the availability of discounts in the form of vouchers for commercial gas. These vouchers need to be activated in the 'Social Wallet' service.
For the convenience of consumers, they only need to enter their account number for their place of residence in the application. There is no need for consumers to provide documents for housing (owned/rented), the Ministry of Energy emphasized.
The discount can reach up to 24% off the billed amount for gas. The discount applies to gas consumed within the limits established by the akimats of Shymkent (631 cubic meters/month) and the West Kazakhstan region (833 cubic meters/month).
The ministry noted that when setting consumption norms, parameters such as the average monthly outdoor temperature, energy efficiency class of the premises, and other indicators were taken into account.
The pilot project will be implemented over a period of five months and is also aimed at digitization and scaling to other regions.
"This initiative is being implemented as part of the President's Address 'Fair Kazakhstan: Law and Order, Economic Growth, Public Optimism' dated September 2, 2024, where the head of state emphasized the importance of targeting government support to those truly in need," the relevant ministry stressed.
