Kazakhstan will finalize the pool of consortium participants for the construction of a nuclear power plant (NPP) in the first half of 2025, announced Energy Minister Almasadam Satkaliyev, as reported by Interfax-Kazakhstan.
“ A decision will be made in the first half ” , - Almasadam Satkaliyev told reporters in Almaty while responding to a relevant question.
Previously, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev stated that the construction of the NPP should be undertaken by an international consortium of companies. It was reported that Kazakhstan will determine the companies, technologies, and contractors for the construction of the nuclear power plant in 2025.
On October 6, a nationwide referendum was held in Kazakhstan regarding the construction of the NPP, in which the citizens of the republic approved its construction.
Currently, Kazakhstan is considering high-capacity reactor technologies from four suppliers, which include France, China, Russia, and South Korea. According to the country's Ministry of Energy, the average cost of one power unit is approximately $5 billion.
