Residents of Almaty are constantly facing traffic jams: now this occurs not only during rush hour but at any time of the day. However, Kazakhs often choose to approach everything with humor. Recently, Almaty residents shared on social media how they spend their time stuck in traffic. Tengri Life provides more details.
Popular blogger Nagima Nastevich shared how she had to be resourceful to arrive at an event on time. Nagima left her hometown of Talgar two hours before the event, but while caught in traffic, she realized she was at risk of being late. At that point, she made an unexpected decision: leaving her belongings in a taxi, she switched to a scooter and made her way to the venue. The taxi with her belongings arrived only 40 minutes after she got there. Nagima recounted this incident in a video that quickly went viral.
Users appreciated her sense of humor and took the opportunity to discuss the issue of traffic jams.
"I was sweating just listening," "Nagima, I live on Al-Farabi – Shashkina, it's impossible to get around in that area. Only on foot and scooters. We leave the scooter before the river and rent again on the other side of Esentay," "Why is nothing done about these traffic jams? I can relate; we were also going to my daughter's surgery. We spent 2 hours: we left at 6 AM to arrive by 8," "The reason I don’t want to live in Almaty," "The ruthless realities of Almaty," "The situation was practically hopeless," "You are such a wonderful storyteller," – users commented under the video.
Another Almaty resident shared a funny observation online about how people find common ground in traffic jams.
"We’re like family already, honestly! Here’s a couple – feeding each other, apparently they just got married. There’s a delivery guy – we’re already greeting each other. I even exchanged a few words with the taxi driver, although his client was unhappy," – cheerfully recounted the video’s author.
Equally interesting was the case of another driver who, tired of waiting, ordered sushi right in the traffic jam. He explained to the courier where he was and described his car. The result? The sushi was delivered, and he was still stuck in the same spot.
Almaty residents acknowledge that traffic jams have become a part of urban life, and everyone copes with it in their own way.
"Maybe we should all switch to mopeds?" "I also enjoy when you’re stuck in traffic for a long time, and you end up traveling to another part of the city together, yielding to each other while changing lanes, like family," "I work in a delivery service. I leave at the same time in the morning and evening. When stuck in traffic, you look around – you know who’s where. You already recognize the numbers like relatives," "This is how we positively make our way home," "We should create a common chat," "Purely Almaty entertainment, leisurely spending a couple of hours in traffic: showing ourselves and watching others," – commented users.
