Information has emerged online regarding the death of a famous heroic dog named Pshön in the Atyrau region, with more details available on Tengri Life.
Previously, the owner, Zămzăgül, reported that unknown individuals had shot her dog, which gained fame across Kazakhstan in the spring by helping to build sand embankments during floods. The news of the dog's death was shared on Facebook.
"On November 28, 2024, in the Makhambet district, a veterinarian from the local veterinary station received a complaint from a resident about being unable to enter their home due to three stray dogs on their property. The veterinary specialist, who arrived at the scene, conducted a procedure to temporarily euthanize the dogs using a dart shot. Two dogs were euthanized, while the third dog ran towards the river after being hit by the dart and died under unclear circumstances," the veterinary department of the Atyrau region's agriculture management stated.
It was clarified that the district prosecutor's office and police are investigating the legality of the actions taken by the veterinary station staff.
"Following the investigation, appropriate measures will be taken. It should be noted that, according to the rules for keeping and walking pets, owners are required to walk their dogs in public places on a leash no longer than two meters. Free roaming is only allowed in designated areas for walking or training dogs," the veterinary department of the Atyrau region's agriculture management stated.
Recall that in April 2024, videos emerged on messaging platforms showing a dog actively assisting residents of the Atyrau region in flood protection efforts. The dog was carrying bags, thereby contributing to the construction of a dam. At that time, many Kazakhs noted that the dog was a true hero.
Today, the dog's owner confirmed to our editorial team the fact of the animal's death. She mentioned that the family is struggling to cope with the loss of their beloved pet. Many Kazakhs are also shocked by what has happened, and some are suggesting that a monument be erected for the animal in Atyrau.
