WhatsApp will discontinue support for three iPhone models starting May 5, 2025. A hidden notification confirming the service's plans to update its device requirements was discovered on a site that examines beta versions of applications, as reported by Tengri Life citing Dailymail.
From May 5, 2025, WhatsApp will no longer be updated on the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, and iPhone 6 Plus. These models do not support iOS 15.1, which is necessary for the app to function, and are limited to iOS 12.5.7.
Those who prefer Android need not worry. The changes will only affect older iPhone models, while owners of other devices will continue to use WhatsApp without restrictions.
WhatsApp seems to have chosen an opportune moment to bid farewell to outdated iPhones, having assessed how few users remain on these models.
If you plan to upgrade your smartphone to continue using the app, experts recommend backing up your chats and multimedia to iCloud in advance. This will simplify the transfer of your data to a new iPhone, thanks to WhatsApp's convenient chat transfer feature.
All new iPhone models will continue to support WhatsApp as long as they have the latest version of iOS installed. Just update the system, and you'll stay connected without any limitations.
