People who regularly consume black tea may live longer than those who do not have this habit. Oncologist Leonid Doronin shared this information, as reported by Tengri Life.
While green tea has been extensively studied and long recognized for its health benefits, black tea has received less attention, resulting in ambiguous findings, he noted. One issue is that large studies have primarily been conducted in countries like Japan or China, where green tea is more popular.
For this reason, he stated that researchers have focused their attention on the United Kingdom, where the consumption of black tea is commonplace.
"Researchers surveyed approximately 500,000 people and monitored them for an average of 11 years. The results were compelling," the doctor explained.
It turned out that drinking black tea was associated with a lower risk of mortality for those who consumed two or more cups a day compared to non-drinkers. Individuals who added milk or sugar experienced the same benefits, and the results remained consistent regardless of the tea's temperature.
Moreover, researchers highlighted that tea lovers had a lower risk of death from cardiovascular diseases, ischemic heart disease, and stroke compared to those who did not drink tea.
"Although it is difficult to pinpoint exactly why tea consumption has such advantages, these results are not particularly surprising. This beverage is rich in bioactive compounds, including the well-known polyphenols and flavonoids, which reduce stress and inflammation throughout the body," the expert noted.
Nevertheless, the doctor believes it is essential not to overindulge in black tea. He cited the case of a woman who became so enamored with the drink that her bones became excessively fragile.
According to the study's findings, even two cups of tea are sufficient, he added.
