Nine regions of Kazakhstan face an increased risk of flooding in spring 2025.

According to Kazhydromet, taking into account snowmelt and rising water levels, an increased risk of flooding is forecasted in the following regions: East Kazakhstan, Abai, Karaganda, Ulytau, Akmolinsk, North Kazakhstan, Kostanay, Aktobe, and West Kazakhstan.

Regions with medium and low flooding risks this spring have also been identified.

Medium flooding risk: Almaty, Zhetysu, Zhambyl, Turkestan, and Atyrau regions.

Low flooding risk: Pavlodar, Mangistau, and Kyzylorda regions.

Last year, flooding caused significant financial damage to the country's budget. The regions that were particularly affected include Aktobe, Atyrau, North Kazakhstan, East Kazakhstan, Pavlodar, Kostanay, and Akmolinsk. It is crucial to prevent a recurrence of last year's disaster. To this end, the Ministry of Emergency Situations is conducting research to implement a flood modeling system for rescuers, which involves digitizing the local landscape.
