Air taxis are set to launch from Almaty to the new city in the Almaty region.

During a government briefing, Transport Minister Marat Karabaev discussed the potential for implementing autonomous vehicles in Kazakhstan, as reported by a NUR.KZ correspondent.
Air taxis are set to launch from Almaty to the new city in the Almaty region.

According to the minister, the relevant department is currently discussing mobile transport from the airport to the city of Alatau using air mobility vehicles.

"These are silent helicopters powered by hydrogen, capable of carrying up to five passengers. Such technologies are being actively developed by South Korean and American companies. One Kazakhstani company has also expressed interest in participating in the development of the air mobility sector.

"We are currently exploring the possibility of a pilot implementation of this technology in Kazakhstan. The first phase involves a route from Almaty to the city of Alatau. We are discussing this issue with Kazakhstani entrepreneurs. The pilot launch is scheduled for 2026," - reported Karabaev.

He also noted that there are currently no legislative restrictions in Kazakhstan regarding the operation of unmanned vehicles. The appearance of such cars in Kazakhstan was announced today by the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Jaslan Madiyev.

"We are not developing a legislative amendment regarding who will be liable in the event of a traffic accident. Today, a proposal was received from the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry (MCDRIAP) to study how other countries form their regulatory framework. We will consider this issue.

"As the development and use of unmanned vehicles progresses in the Republic of Kazakhstan, you can be assured that we will prepare the legislative framework," - the minister assured.

It is worth noting that in October of last year, it became known that South Korea expressed interest in building an air transport system in the city of Alatau. It was mentioned that the company has experience in implementing urban air mobility.

"The idea of implementing the urban air mobility concept is to create a safe and efficient air transport system and other aviation technologies. This will revolutionize the ways people move and goods are transported between major cities and regions by air, as well as within the cities themselves," - explained the Ministry of Transport at that time.

Recall that in January of last year, the country's president, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, signed a decree on changes to the administrative-territorial structure of the Almaty region. In particular, the Ili district was reorganized by separating the village of Zhetygen, which became the city of Alatau.

Later, the authorities showed how the new city would look. In October 2024, the boundaries of the new city of Alatau in the Almaty region were defined. The regional akimat issued the corresponding resolution.

In December of the same year, the akim of the Almaty region, Marat Sultangaziev, stated that the construction of the modern city of Alatau is being based on the example of Singapore.
