Driverless cars may soon hit the roads of Kazakhstan.

Kazakhstan is launching a program aimed at developing the electric vehicle and unmanned transport market. This announcement was made by the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovation, and Aerospace Industry, Jaslan Madiyev, during a government meeting, as reported by NUR.KZ.
Driverless cars may soon hit the roads of Kazakhstan.

Jaslan Madiyev highlighted the international experience in the field of unmanned transportation.

"In several countries, including the USA, China, and Russia, projects involving unmanned vehicles are already being successfully implemented. The market for unmanned vehicles has immense potential. Experts predict that there will be exponential growth in this market in the near future. For example, by 2035, the market for unmanned vehicles is expected to reach 3 trillion USD, an increase of nearly 100 times," said the minister.

To develop the market in Kazakhstan, he suggests starting with a "regulatory sandbox, within which regulations will be adopted and test sites selected for pilot launches."

"In the next stage, based on the project's success, it will be launched on a national scale. Implementing such an initiative for unmanned transport will bring Kazakhstan several strategic advantages. Firstly, it will attract international companies and investments. Companies like Waymo (Google), Tesla, Baidu, Mobileye, Yandex, and Huawei are actively seeking countries with flexible regulations for testing unmanned vehicles. Secondly, it will lead to an influx of foreign investments in research, infrastructure, and the production of components for autonomous vehicles," motivated the head of the Ministry of Digital Development, Innovations, and Aerospace Industry.

He cited the example of the UAE, where the regulatory sandbox allowed companies WeRide and Cruise to test unmanned taxis in Dubai, accelerating local digitalization of transport.

Recall that last autumn in the USA, Elon Musk presented Tesla's prototypes of future unmanned taxis - a two-seater Cybercab without a steering wheel and pedals to investors.

The company plans to start mass production of these vehicles before 2027.

It is worth noting that the businessman arrived at the event in this vehicle.
