President-elect Donald Trump has named investor Scott Bessent as a candidate for the position of Treasury Secretary in his upcoming administration, reports Interfax-Kazakhstan.
He announced on the social media platform Truth Social that he is nominating Bessent, who is "respected as one of the leading international investors in the world," for the role of Secretary of the Treasury.
Earlier, Axios reported on the president-elect's plans to nominate Scott Bessent, noting that he has been actively fundraising and has defended Donald Trump in the media.
Previously, Polymarket indicated that the most likely candidate for the Treasury Secretary position is Howard Lutnick, CEO of Cantor Fitzgerald. His main competitor has been hedge fund manager Scott Bessent. The latter has strengthened his position after receiving backing from Elon Musk and the nominee for Secretary of Health, Robert Francis Kennedy Jr. He has also gained support from former Federal Reserve Board member Kevin Warsh.
