"Preparing for the worst-case scenario": The Ministry of Emergency Situations comments on flood preparedness efforts.

Magomet Akhriev reported that forecasts indicate a snowy winter ahead.

"In any case, we are preparing for the worst-case scenario, meaning we are working through and conducting drills based on the most unfavorable outcomes. This is our starting point." , - he noted.

According to him, preparations for flooding are nearing completion.

"As of today, we know exactly how many personnel and resources will be involved in these activities. Approximately 40,000 people will be engaged to varying degrees." , - the spokesperson stated.

Akhriev announced that in early February, a republican command-staff exercise named "Koktem-2025" is planned, which will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will take place in February for the southern and western regions, while the second phase will occur in March for the northern and other regions.

Recall that in the spring of 2024, flooding occurred in Kazakhstan. A state of emergency was declared in several regions. From the flood zones, 120,000 people were evacuated.

The government approved a list of property that was to be compensated for those affected. This list included not only housing and livestock but also furniture, means for informing citizens, and items for heating and water supply. Additionally, affected Kazakhs were granted deferrals on utility payments.

Later, it was revealed that the government paid 10.1 billion tenge to Kazakh entrepreneurs affected by the floods.

At the end of last year, it became known that the founder of the charitable foundation Biz Birgemiz Qazaqstan, Perizat Kairat, is suspected of embezzling 1.5 billion tenge collected for those affected by the floods.
