According to the Ministry of Transport, roads are now designated with the indices KAZ and KZ.
The KAZ index has been assigned to 23 highways that traverse multiple regions. For instance, the route from Astana to Almaty via Karaganda is marked as KAZ01. The route from Astana to the border with Russia through Petropavlovsk has been assigned the index KAZ02.
The KZ index is applied to 88 roads within a single region. For example, in the Aktobe region, the road from Kandyagash to Emba to Shalkar to Irgiz has received the index KZ04-02, where "04" denotes the region and "02" indicates the road's serial number. In the Zhambyl region, the highway from Merke to Shu to Burylbaital is labeled as KZ08-04.
Old indices, such as E and AH, assigned under international agreements will remain unchanged. This will help maintain consistency in the international transport system and facilitate transit.
