Kazakhstan and Portugal are strengthening their inter-parliamentary cooperation.

During the meeting with the Chairman of the Assembly, Maulen Ashimbayev emphasized the significance of multifaceted cooperation between the two countries. The Speaker of the Senate identified inter-parliamentary relations as a crucial mechanism for strengthening bilateral interaction, which is given particular attention at the highest level.

The meeting between the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, and the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, at last year's UN General Assembly session, as noted by Maulen Ashimbayev, confirmed the mutual interest of both countries in developing political and economic cooperation. He also expressed readiness to establish working contacts within the framework of participation in international parliamentary organizations, including the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly.

Furthermore, the Speaker of the Senate provided his colleague with detailed information about the comprehensive transformations being implemented in Kazakhstan under the initiative of the country's President, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, in the political and socio-economic spheres. In particular, he discussed the outcomes of the referendum on amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the results of the recent elections to the Parliament and local councils.

During the meeting, the parties also examined issues related to expanding trade, economic, and cultural-humanitarian cooperation. Specifically, proposals were made for the implementation of joint projects in the areas of "green" economy, infrastructure, transport and logistics, agriculture, and scientific and technological activities. The sides exchanged views on enhancing partnerships in education, tourism, and digitalization.

In turn, José Pedro Aguiar-Branco expressed the interest of Portuguese parliamentarians in developing multilateral relations and noted the effectiveness of the political transformation taking place in Kazakhstan.

It is noteworthy that as part of the visit to the Portuguese Republic, members of the Kazakh delegation, led by Speaker of the Senate Maulen Ashimbayev, will participate in the work of the Global Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations, which will take place from November 25 to 27 in the city of Cascais. A meeting is also scheduled between Maulen Ashimbayev and UN Secretary-General António Guterres, as well as with the High Representative of the Alliance of Civilizations, Miguel Ángel Moratinos.
