During the meeting, a wide range of issues regarding Kazakh-Turkmen cooperation was discussed, including the prospects for interaction in the political, trade-economic, transit-transport, energy, and cultural-humanitarian spheres.
The parties emphasized their mutual commitment to further strengthening the strategic partnership in the spirit of friendship, good neighborliness, and mutual respect.
The heads of the foreign ministries thoroughly reviewed the progress of practical implementation of the agreements reached following the official visit of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, to Ashgabat in October 2024. They agreed to continue facilitating the strengthening of inter-parliamentary and intergovernmental ties.
Special attention was given to further expanding trade and economic cooperation. Over the past two years, the volume of mutual trade between Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan has consistently exceeded $500 million. The parties agreed to take coordinated measures to achieve the goal set by the heads of state to increase trade turnover to $1 billion.
Significant potential was noted in the energy and transport sectors. There was a readiness expressed to further promote fruitful cooperation in these areas.
The substantive agenda of cultural and humanitarian cooperation was emphasized. In accordance with the directives of the heads of state, last year, ceremonial openings of the monuments to Makhtumkuli in Astana, Abai and Kurmangazy in Ashgabat took place, and cross-cultural Days of Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan were held.
During the meeting, the ministers "synchronized their watches" on relevant aspects of the regional and international agenda, confirming their interest in continuing close cooperation within multilateral frameworks, as well as providing mutual support in promoting the initiatives of both states. In this context, an exchange of relevant verbal notes supporting each other's candidacies in international organizations took place.
M. Nurtleu congratulated the Turkmen side on the beginning of the International Year of Peace and Trust, declared by the UN General Assembly at the initiative of Turkmenistan.
The foreign ministers underscored the importance of further developing regional cooperation and joint efforts to strengthen peace and stability in Central Asia, including within the framework of consultative meetings of the heads of Central Asian states and the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.
