Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have agreed to develop technical specifications for a water accounting system on the Syr Darya.

Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have agreed on the development of a technical assignment for automating water accounting of the Syr Darya River, reports the business information center Kapital.kz, citing the press service of the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation.

As a reminder, earlier Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan identified 10 sites in the Syr Darya River basin where automated water accounting systems will be installed. Five of these sites are located in Kazakhstan, while the other five are in Uzbekistan.

Currently, the parties are negotiating with international financial organizations. The overall technical assignment for the project is being developed by the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ).

"It should be noted that only the first 10 sites have been identified. Overall, we plan to automate all major hydroposts and ensure complete transparency in water accounting. We are actively promoting this issue in negotiations with our Kyrgyz and Tajik colleagues," said Nurlan Aldamzharov, the Vice Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation.
