Two new honorary consulates of Kazakhstan have been established in the Croatian cities of Opatija, with a consular district that includes the Primorje-Gorski Kotar and Istria counties, and Split ( Split-Dalmatia County ). The opening ceremonies were attended by the Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Croatia, Akylbek Kamaldinov, the honorary consuls of Kazakhstan, Zoran Marjic and Kruno Peronja, local government officials, as well as representatives from business circles and the public from three major regions of Croatia.
In his speech, A. Kamaldinov emphasized that the establishment of honorary consulates as part of the ongoing systemic reforms in Kazakhstan would further stimulate the development and deepening of Kazakh-Croatian cooperation. The main priorities for the honorary consulates will be to support Kazakh citizens and to strengthen trade, economic, and cultural-humanitarian ties between the two countries.
The honorary consul in Opatija, Zoran Marjic, is the head of the Tramontana Volosko group of companies and a successful, experienced businessman. During the opening ceremony, he assured those present that the Honorary Consulate would serve as a starting point for protecting the rights and interests of Kazakh citizens, as well as for expanding mutually beneficial relations between the regions of Kazakhstan and Istria and the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County of Croatia in the fields of economy, culture, and tourism.
During the opening of the Honorary Consulate in Split, the Kazakh diplomat highlighted that “Split is not only a dynamically developing tourist center but also a promising region for the development of trade, economic, investment, scientific, and humanitarian cooperation.” Presenting the exequatur – a document that allows the honorary consul to fully commence his duties – to K. Peronja, who heads the new Honorary Consulate of Kazakhstan, the Kazakh diplomat expressed confidence that he would wholeheartedly continue working to strengthen and develop the friendship and cooperation between Kazakhstan and Croatia.
Thanking the Kazakh side for this initiative, the mayors of Opatija, Rijeka, and Split present at the opening expressed their full support for the activities of the honorary consulates of Kazakhstan.
Additionally, during the events, a multimedia presentation on Kazakhstan's economic and investment potential was organized.
The Primorje-Gorski Kotar County is home to large pharmaceutical companies, such as “JGL d.d.” , which actively collaborate with Kazakhstan. Furthermore, there is an oil terminal in Omišalj, which receives over 2 million tons of Kazakh oil annually. Split is the second largest city in Croatia and a tourist center of the country, where the IT industry and shipbuilding are also actively developing.
