KazMunayGas plans to distribute record dividends in 2024.

During a meeting of the expanded board of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kurmangazy Iskaziev, the First Deputy Chairman of the Board of JSC NC "KazMunayGas," presented the company's results for 2024 and its plans for 2025, according to Bizmedia.kz.
KazMunayGas plans to distribute record dividends in 2024.

Main operational indicators of KMG:

  • Oil production – 23.8 million tons, which is 300,000 tons more than last year.
  • Natural gas and associated gas production – 9.55 billion m³; a 16% increase is expected in 2025, reaching 11.1 billion m³.
  • Oil transportation – 83.5 million tons, exceeding the 2023 level by 4%.
  • Oil refining – 18.2 million tons.

KMG remains a key player in the country's oil and gas sector, accounting for 26% of oil production, 56% of transportation, and 80% of refining.

Financial Indicators and Investments

KMG plans to pay record dividends of 350 billion tenge for 2024.
International rating agencies have upgraded the company's rating.

External investments are being attracted for the implementation of promising projects. Contracts with international partners are expected to be signed in 2025:

  • Zhylioy (CNOOC)
  • Bolashak (Karamarjan Group)
  • Bereziovsky (Sinopec)
  • Mugodzhar (Shell, Chevron)

Drilling is scheduled for the North Ozen (1650–2000 m) and Bolashak (3500 m) projects by the end of 2025.

Geological Exploration and Technological Innovations

As of January 1, 2025, the remaining recoverable reserves of oil and condensate amount to 767 million tons.

KMG is actively developing geological exploration of deep-seated rocks. In 2024, exploratory drilling has commenced in the following areas:

  • Turgai Paleozoic (Kyzylorda region) – 5500 m
  • Karaton Subsalt (Atyrau region) – 5500 m
  • Tysoigan (Atyrau region)
  • Karazhar (Aktobe region)

The company is implementing advanced technologies to maintain production at mature fields. A Technological Challenges Program has been developed, which enhances oil recovery with an individual approach to each field. In 2024, this program added an additional 418,000 tons of oil, with plans to increase this figure to 519,000 tons in 2025.

In addition, in 2024, successful rehabilitation projects for the Uzen and Karaman dibas fields were carried out, resulting in an additional 158,000 tons of oil.

KazMunayGas continues to evolve by adopting new technologies and expanding international cooperation to strengthen Kazakhstan's position in the global oil and gas market.

KMG is actively developing gas production and expanding export routes, while also implementing large-scale projects in oil refining and gas chemistry.

KMG is conducting comprehensive work to increase gas production:

  • Rozhkovskoye gas condensate field (ZKO) – the first phase of development with a design capacity of 500 million m³ of gas per year has been completed.
  • Western Prorva – work continues on the development of the gas deposit, with the launch of the first phase in June 2025 expected to provide an additional 150 million m³ of gas per year.
  • Eastern and Central Urytau – drilling and well construction are planned for 2025.
  • New gas processing plant in Zhanaozen – early construction works have started, with a planned capacity of 900 million m³.

KMG is continuing to develop additional oil export routes:

  • Oil supplies to Germany – increased by 50% in 2024, with plans to maintain this volume in 2025.
  • Route Aktau – Baku – Ceyhan (under an agreement with SOCAR) – transit volume has increased to 1.4 million tons (+27%), with plans to increase it to 1.7 million tons in 2025.
  • Pipeline Kazakhstan – China – in 2024, technical specifications for the feasibility study of expanding capacity were being coordinated.
  • Expansion of Kazmotransflot fleet – in 2025, a project to acquire two Aframax-type oil tankers will begin.

All three major oil refineries in Kazakhstan continue to produce socially significant oil products. In 2024, the production of light oil products increased by 370,000 tons, reaching a record level. In 2025, the volume is expected to increase by another 75,000 tons.

KMG is also implementing investment projects for the modernization of refineries until 2030:

  • Shymkent Refinery – a project to expand capacity to 12 million tons is being carried out jointly with CNPC; in 2025, a transition to the development of the feasibility study is planned.
  • Bitumen plant Caspi Bitum (Aktau) – expansion of capacity from 500 to 750 thousand tons has begun; completion of works is expected in April 2025.

KMG is actively developing the oil and gas chemistry sector:

  • Construction of a polyethylene production plant with a capacity of 1.25 million tons – early works commenced in 2024.
  • Development of projects for the production of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) and urea.
  • Total investments in oil and gas chemistry by 2030 will exceed 13 billion dollars, creating 15,000 jobs during the construction phase and 2,000 permanent jobs.
