The Congress Center in the Mountain Giant of Almaty will be owned by the state.

The Akim of Almaty, Yerbolat Dosaev, commented on the construction of the Congress Center in the Mountain Giant area above Al-Farabi Avenue and assured that the facility will remain state-owned, as reported by a correspondent from the Kapital.kz business information center, citing the city administration's press service.

“Funds from the city budget will be allocated for engineering infrastructure and landscaping. Private sponsorship will also be attracted as part of social responsibility,” said the city head during a meeting with residents of the Medeu district.

The Akim assured that all land acquisition activities for the construction of the center are conducted strictly in accordance with the law.

“Those who disagree with the proposed prices can go to court. Necessary agreements have already been signed with some landowners, and payments have been made. The main point is that the majority of the land is owned by the city. We are not infringing on the rights of our citizens in any way,” stated the Akim.

He added that there is currently no Congress Center in the city, and such a project will benefit Almaty.

“False rumors have been spread that commercial real estate will be built. I want to assure the residents of the city that there will be no commercial real estate. There will only be a Congress Center. Since the Soviet era, apart from the Palace of the Republic, we have not constructed any similar facilities,” said Yerbolat Dosaev. “Our city must develop. There is no free state land fund in Almaty, so we are forced to acquire land for road construction, social infrastructure development, and public spaces. We are doing all this strictly by the law.”

According to the Akim, the construction of commercial real estate at the site of the planned Congress Center is ruled out.

“Not a single square meter of land purchased with budget funds can be transferred to private individuals according to the Land Code. I want to clarify this issue immediately to avoid any illusions,” concluded the city head.

Earlier, it was reported that in Almaty, there are plans to increase parking fees and create low-emission zones. It is expected that entry into these zones for vehicles that do not meet modern environmental standards will be charged.

Yerbolat Dosaev also discussed measures to prevent mudflows and landslides in the city's foothills.
