Oil
The decline in oil prices continues, with both benchmark grades finishing the month in the red. April futures for Brent crude on the London ICE Futures exchange, as of 20:51 AST on February 28, have decreased by 1.05%, settling at $73.26 per barrel. The contracts will expire at market close on Friday. More actively traded May contracts are priced at $72.88 per barrel. April futures for WTI crude on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX) have dropped by 0.81%, reaching $69.78 per barrel. Since the beginning of February, Brent quotes have fallen by 3.4%, while WTI has decreased by 3.8%. Pressure on prices is coming from Washington's threats to impose tariffs on imports from major U.S. trading partners, reports Interfax-Kazakhstan.
Metals
As of 22:27 AST, the price of April gold futures has fallen by $38.14 or 1.30%, to $2,858.01 per troy ounce. The value of March silver futures has decreased by 1.43%, settling at $31.30 per ounce.
Gold prices are declining and are on track for their largest weekly drop since November due to a strengthening dollar. Investors are anticipating key inflation data from the U.S. that could provide signals regarding the Federal Reserve's monetary policy trajectory, writes investing.com. "Although gold is considered a safe haven, uncertainty on the trade front may extend profit-taking amid a stronger U.S. dollar," said IG market strategist Yip Jun Rong.

The National Bank of Kazakhstan has set the official exchange rates for foreign currencies against the tenge as of March 1. The official exchange rate of the tenge against the U.S. dollar was established based on the results of two sessions at the Kazakhstan Stock Exchange (KASE) on February 28, while the official exchange rates for other currencies were calculated through cross-rates established at 17:00 AST on February 28.
