"There's no need to create panic": Tokayev shared his thoughts on the metapneumovirus.

According to an official update on the Akorda Telegram channel, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited the student dormitory of the Eurasian National University named after L.N. Gumilyov.

The head of state inspected the new dormitory designed for students, master's, and doctoral candidates at the Eurasian National University, which accommodates 2,656 residents.

The Minister of Science and Higher Education reported to the president about the establishment of an academic hub in the country through the opening of branches of foreign universities and measures taken to provide students with accommodation.

The president positively evaluated the ongoing efforts in this area and emphasized the importance of international cooperation in education and youth exchanges. He also commented on the metapneumovirus, which is causing concern in society.

"Everyone is currently talking about the new infection. There is no need to create panic. We must continue to develop cooperation with China," stated the head of state.

It should be noted that it was previously reported that human metapneumovirus has been detected in patients across China: hospitals nationwide have found cases of influenza, rhinovirus, and human metapneumovirus.

The day before, the Ministry of Health of Kazakhstan commented on the outbreak of metapneumovirus in China and provided clarifications regarding this illness. It was also revealed that there have been identified cases of metapneumovirus in Kazakhstan.

The Telegram channel "SK-Pharmacy" published a statement regarding the availability of medications in light of the reports of metapneumovirus cases.

Meanwhile, information has circulated online suggesting that the human metapneumovirus affecting residents of China is much more dangerous than the coronavirus. According to fact-checkers, this is not true.

"Metapneumovirus is a common seasonal respiratory infection. It does not pose a global threat like the coronavirus did," stated the WHO on this matter.
