American actor John Lithgow has confirmed that he has been cast as Albus Dumbledore, reports Tengri Life, citing screenrant.com.
John Lithgow, known for his roles in the series "Dexter," "The Crown," and the Oscar-nominated film "The Conclave," has confirmed in an interview that he will portray Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series. Francesca Gardiner will serve as the showrunner for the television show, but the identity of the lead actor remains a mystery.
Although the 79-year-old actor does not reveal any details about the series, he admits that the decision to accept the role was difficult due to the significant commitment required during the filming period of the project.
"Well, it was a complete surprise for me. I was just called at the Sundance Film Festival about another movie, and it was not an easy decision because, I fear, it will define me in the last chapter of my life. But I am very excited. Some wonderful people are once again turning their attention to Harry Potter. That’s why it was such a tough decision. I’ll be about 87 years old at the wrap party, but I said yes," the actor shared.

It is noteworthy that Lithgow will be the fourth actor to take on this role in history. In the first two installments of the film franchise, the role was portrayed by the legendary British actor Richard Harris, who was around 69 years old at the time of filming. After Harris's passing, the role of the Hogwarts headmaster was taken on by the memorable Michael Gambon in five films, who was 63 during the filming of "Prisoner of Azkaban." The young version of the wizard was played by the handsome Jude Law in the "Fantastic Beasts" trilogy.
Experts note that John Lithgow's age could be an important factor in successfully embodying the role.
