U.S. and Ukraine have not signed an agreement on rare earth metals, according to media reports.

The United States and Ukraine did not sign an agreement on Friday regarding American participation in mining activities in Ukraine, reports Interfax-Kazakhstan citing Bloomberg.

“The United States and Ukraine were unable to finalize the mineral agreement,” the report states.

This information emerged after U.S. President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky disagreed during a press interaction at the White House regarding the Ukrainian settlement. Consequently, their discussion became heated. Following their conversation, Donald Trump took to social media to state that Volodymyr Zelensky is not yet ready for a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. Initially, Donald Trump claimed that the agreement would be beneficial for both the U.S. and Ukraine, as it would help Washington recover its expenditures and assist Kyiv in recovering from the hostilities. The agreement included provisions for the extraction of, among other things, rare earth metals, oil, and gas in Ukraine.

Earlier, Donald Trump stated that concluding a deal with the U.S. would automatically guarantee security for Ukraine due to the presence of American workers in the country.

On Friday, Fox News reported that part of the deal also involves the creation of an investment fund aimed at reconstructing the country, which would be jointly owned by the U.S. and Ukraine.

Previously, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev commented on the situation surrounding Ukraine.

“From the very beginning, we have advocated for an end to the war, for reaching an agreement through diplomatic negotiations. Our position is becoming a reality, as the two major powers have initiated a political dialogue. This is a positive trend that will benefit Kazakhstan as well. Therefore, we will support this trend as much as possible,” the president stated.
