Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and Vladimir Putin participated in the opening ceremony of the branch of the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University at the base of the Fyodor Dostoevsky Omsk State University via videoconference.
During the ceremony, the Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan, Sayasat Nurbek, and the Deputy Minister of Higher Education and Science of Russia, Konstantin Mogilevsky, delivered reports on the cooperation in the field of science and higher education between the two countries.
Subsequently, the heads of state launched the opening of the university branch.
The event was also attended by the rector of KazNU, Zhansait Tuimebaev, and the rector of Omsk State University, Sergey Zamyatin.
The admission of students to the first Kazakh university branch in Russia is scheduled for September 2025. The governments of Kazakhstan and Russia have allocated 200 grants for student education.
The KazNU branch will prepare bachelor's and master's students in the fields of "International Law," "Kazakh Philology," and "Customs Affairs." In the future, the possibility of implementing dual-degree educational programs will be considered.
Instruction will be conducted in Kazakh, Russian, and English by the teaching staff of KazNU and Omsk State University, with plans to also involve foreign scholars.
Currently, 10 educational and methodological classrooms have been prepared and equipped, including the Customs Affairs classroom named after Chokan Valikhanov, the Kazakh Language classroom named after Abai, and the International Law classroom named after Nazir Torekulov, along with 5 offices for administration and faculty, 7 lecture halls, and coworking centers.
