President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev issued several directives regarding the development of competition to Marat Omarov, head of the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition, as reported by the Akorda press service.
The President listened to a report on the execution of the agency's oversight functions, including the results of the antitrust measures taken in 2024. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was informed about the decrease in concentration levels in key commodity markets and the progress of privatization under the presidential decree aimed at liberalizing the economy. The agency has completed 97 antitrust investigations.
Marat Omarov outlined plans for competition development in 2025. To enhance price control in monopolistic markets, improve the efficiency of investigations, and analyze markets, a package of relevant legislative amendments has been developed.
The creation and development of a digital ecosystem for the Agency for the Protection and Development of Competition is planned, which will include an information-analytical system, a digital portal, and analytical tools based on artificial intelligence technologies.
