In Astana, an investigation has been launched into the embezzlement of over 2 billion tenge.

According to the Comprehensive Plan for Combating Drug Addiction and Drug Trafficking for 2023–2025, the republican budget allocated 10.3 billion tenge for the material and technical equipment of forensic bodies. However, in 2023–2024, employees of the Forensic Examination Center colluded with suppliers to inflate the cost of equipment threefold by presenting fictitious commercial proposals. Furthermore, the technical specifications for government procurement initially included equipment that could only be supplied by affiliated companies.

To recover damages, assets worth over 148 million tenge have been seized, including two land plots in Almaty, an apartment in Astana, and BMW X6 and RAV4 vehicles. Additionally, accounts of the LLP have been frozen with 1.6 billion tenge, 367 thousand US dollars, and 366 thousand euros.

The director of the Forensic Examination Center, the head of the Procurement Department, and the head of the LLP have been detained and placed in custody for 2 months. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
