Japan has highly praised Kazakhstan's initiatives regarding nuclear safety.

The ambassador congratulated the interlocutors on the recent awarding of the Nobel Peace Prize to "Nihon Hidankyo," emphasizing that this recognition acknowledges the confederation's efforts in nuclear disarmament and its contributions to strengthening international security.

Representatives of the confederation noted that the term "hibakusha" (victims of the atomic bombings) has become widely recognized globally and has transformed into the concept of "global hibakusha," uniting all individuals affected by nuclear testing, including those in the Semipalatinsk test site region.

During the conversation, particular attention was paid to Kazakhstan's upcoming presidency at the Third Meeting of States Parties to the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW), which will take place in March 2025 at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

In this context, T. Tanaka informed that "Nihon Hidankyo" will send its delegation to the event and expressed support for Kazakhstan's presidency. It was noted that Japanese parliamentarians representing the ruling coalition plan to participate in the upcoming meeting.

Representatives of the Japanese civil society organization highly praised Kazakhstan's leading role in the global movement for nuclear disarmament. Following the meeting, E. Baudarbek-Kozhataev and T. Tanaka agreed to closely collaborate on initiatives aimed at creating a world free of nuclear weapons.

"Nihon Hidankyo" was established in 1956 by survivors of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (hibakusha) to assist victims and promote the ideas of renouncing nuclear weapons. The confederation actively advocates for the universalization of the TPNW and supports the creation of a nuclear-free world. In 2024, "Nihon Hidankyo" was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for its efforts to achieve a world free of nuclear weapons.
