A key section of the Zharkent-Khorgos road has been opened in Zhetisu.

In the Panfilov district of the Zhetisu region, a key section of the "Zharkent-Khorgos" highway, spanning 32 km, has been opened. This road accommodates a significant volume of traffic heading to the customs point "Nur Zholy," the MPCS "Khorgos," the Altynkol station, and the SEZ "Khorgos - Eastern Gate," according to the press service of the regional akimat.

The 32 km stretch of the "Zharkent-Khorgos" road runs through the villages of Kirykkuduk, Akkent, Avat, and Atameken in the Panfilov district. It was constructed in the 1960s and 70s and has faced dissatisfaction from drivers and local residents in recent years. Road repair work commenced in July of this year and was completed in just five months by a contracting organization commissioned by the "KazAvtoZhol" branch.

"To enhance the region's infrastructure and improve the operational quality of roads, we conducted medium repairs on the old road leading from the border village of Khorgos to the city of Zharkent this year," says Nurkat Akyltaev, director of the regional branch of "KazAvtoZhol." "As part of the project, the quality of the road surface was improved by laying a new two-layer asphalt coating. Sidewalks have been constructed in nearby settlements, lighting has been installed, new road signs and informational panels have been erected, and road markings have been applied to ensure traffic safety."

Large-scale projects for the reconstruction of republican roads are being implemented in the region. The republican road Usharal-Dostyk has been put into operation. Currently, the reconstruction of the Taldykorgan – Usharal road is nearing completion, with 98% of the work done, and full project completion is scheduled for the end of 2024. Repair work is also underway on the republican roads Saryozek-Koktala and Aydarly – Koktal.

This year, 24.9 billion tenge has been allocated for the development of regional roads. These funds are being used for 29 projects, with plans to repair 193.4 km of roads. Thus, by the end of 2024, it is expected to achieve the indicator "Share of local roads in good and satisfactory condition" at a level of 94%.
