The Russian portal Newsvl.ru reviewed the key events of the KHL match between Vladivostok's Admiral and Astana's Barys, as reported by Sports.kz.
“The home team started the match with a series of sharp attacks, quickly gaining territorial advantage and earning an early power play opportunity. Although they could not capitalize on Orazov's penalty, the 'sailors' soon scored during even strength. In the 5th minute, Deryabin took a shot from the blue line, and the goalkeeper deflected the puck to the far post, where Shane Prince, ending a six-match scoreless streak, was there to score — 1:0.
The Far Eastern team held a clear advantage and earned another chance to play with a man advantage in the 12th minute. By this time, they played more carefully: Petukhov made a cross-ice pass to Daniil Gutik, who caught the goalie off-guard with his shot, extending their lead in the match to 2:0.
In the second period, the teams exchanged goals. Former Barys forward Petukhov converted a penalty he earned and increased the score to a significant 3:0; however, the Astana team narrowed the gap by halftime thanks to a powerful shot from Rakhmanov — 1:3.
A goal against Admiral boosted the visitors' confidence, and in the third period, they made a comeback. First, Mametaliyev's team capitalized on a 'three-on-two' break with a precise shot by Kairzhan, and with six and a half minutes left before the buzzer, Ivan Nikolishin scored the third goal, ultimately sending the game into a five-minute overtime — 3:3.
The hero of the match was destined to be Admiral defenseman Alexander Shepelev, who scored in his 100th KHL game: with 18 seconds left in overtime, Gutik took a shot on Boyarkin's net, but the rebound was collected by Shepelev, who skillfully maneuvered around a defender and found the right corner to score — 4:3,” the media reports.
