Leading experts discussed the prospects of artificial intelligence (AI) application in information security, legislative initiatives, and international cooperation in data protection. The session was moderated by Farid Nakhli, program coordinator for the CIS Regional Office of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU UN).
The discussion included representatives from government agencies, businesses, and the expert community. Ruslan Abdikalikov, chairman of the Information Security Committee of the Ministry of Digital Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, shared insights on Kazakhstan's systematic measures in cybersecurity and personal data protection. He highlighted that artificial intelligence already plays a crucial role in identifying vulnerabilities and preventing attacks.
“We have implemented a Bug Bounty platform, a data access control service, and integrated over 220 government systems with the information protection platform,” emphasized Abdikalikov.
Currently, Kazakhstan ranks 3rd in Tier 2 of the ITU UN cybersecurity rating and aims to advance to Tier 1 (the leading group). Key initiatives include:
- launching a Malware Research Center and a cyber polygon;
- expanding the “Cyber Shield-2” program;
- introducing the “STOP-CREDIT” function on eGov;
- joining international conventions on data protection.
According to Umitzhan Arykbekov, Deputy Chairman of the Information Security Committee, the Digital Code and the artificial intelligence law will regulate cybersecurity and data protection. She emphasized that artificial intelligence should complement human efforts, and technology developers must continuously monitor potential threats.
Currently, there are 51 domestic companies in Kazakhstan providing operational information security services. The government seeks to foster cooperation with the tech sector, avoiding excessive regulation while establishing clear requirements for data protection and national security.
The session served as an important platform for exchanging views and developing solutions to ensure digital security. Representatives from government bodies, businesses, and international organizations noted that a comprehensive approach and AI are key to safeguarding Kazakhstan's digital space.
