The Ulba-TVS plant has reached its designed capacity.

By the end of 2024, the Kazakhstan-China joint venture LLP "Ulba-TVS" has achieved its design capacity of 200 tons of low-enriched uranium in the form of fuel assemblies, reports a correspondent from the Kapital.kz business information center, citing data from "Kazatomprom."

"Ulba-TVS" is the only facility in Central Asia dedicated to the production of fuel for nuclear power plants. The project is being implemented by "Kazatomprom" through its subsidiary JSC "Ulba Metallurgical Plant," in collaboration with China General Nuclear Power Corporation.

"The production of nuclear fuel at 'Ulba-TVS' was launched in November 2021. Since the plant's commissioning, it has been steadily increasing production volumes, following a schedule to achieve design capacity within three years... All fuel assemblies produced at this plant are supplied to nuclear power stations in China," explained representatives from the national company.

By the end of its third year of operation, the enterprise met its set goal, producing 200 tons of low-enriched uranium in 2024. This volume corresponds to the amount of nuclear fuel required for the reload of six nuclear reactors.
