Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited the electric locomotive manufacturing plant located in the industrial zone No. 1 of Astana. The plant was launched as part of the industrialization program by the French company Alstom.
The head of state was informed that the enterprise has produced and serviced 380 freight and 70 passenger electric locomotives, along with their components for the national company "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy." Additionally, 80 sections of freight locomotives have been exported to Azerbaijan. Currently, the plant manufactures locomotive bodies, transformers, low-voltage and high-voltage cabinets, among other items.
During the tour of the workshops, the President was briefed on the development of a new generation locomotive, the cost of which has been reduced by 40%, while its efficiency has increased by 20%. Production of new freight electric locomotives will begin in 2028.
At present, Alstom is investing in the construction of service centers in Astana, Almaty, Shu, and Arys, which will create an additional 700 jobs.
Furthermore, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev was presented with products from domestic manufacturers in the railway cluster. In Kazakhstan, over 600 companies are involved in the production of parts and components for the industry. Their goods and services are exported to 25 countries.
During a meeting with young specialists from the electric locomotive assembly plant, the head of state reminded that 2025 has been declared the Year of Working Professions. He emphasized that the government will continue to support young people engaged in the manufacturing sector.
