Almaty is regaining its status as a garden city, says Yerbolat Dosaev.

In Almaty, the program for large-scale greening continues to be implemented. This was announced by Akim Yerbolat Dosaev during a session of the city maslikhat, where the budget project for the metropolis for 2025–2027 is being considered, as reported by a correspondent from the Kapital.kz business information center, citing the press service of the akimat.

One of the key initiatives in this direction is the "Green Almaty" roadmap, approved in 2022. The goal of the program is to plant 2.5 million green plants by 2030. Each year, it is planned to plant 320 thousand trees and shrubs. By 2025, more than 1.2 million trees will be planted, and by 2030, about 1.3 million trees.

In 2024, out of the 320 thousand green plants, 224 thousand seedlings have already been planted, of which more than 150 thousand are trees, and 74 thousand are shrubs. Tree planting is ongoing, with another 96 thousand seedlings expected to be planted by the end of the current year.

“To effectively implement the directive from the head of state regarding the revival of the status of ‘Almaty – the city-garden,’ 500 km of automatic irrigation and drip irrigation networks have been established in 2023-2024, and in 2025, an additional 290 km of such networks will be installed at a cost of 4.1 billion tenge. This will enable the automatic irrigation system to cover more than 1 million trees,” noted Yerbolat Dosaev.

It is worth mentioning that in April 2024, as part of the campaign “Almaty – our common home,” a large-scale greening action titled “Almaty – the city-garden” was conducted. More than 7 thousand green plants were planted, including 4,015 fruit trees, 1,090 deciduous trees, and 2,600 shrubs. The main plantings were carried out in key areas of the city: in the ALA park, 2,270 apple tree seedlings were planted, in the park north of BAKA, 500 fruit trees (250 apple trees and 250 apricot trees), and at the viewpoint along the Boralday River, 1,000 deciduous trees were planted.

District akimats have also actively engaged in creating apple tree alleys and planting shrubs. In the Alatau district, 70 apple trees and 250 shrubs were planted; in the Medeu district, 220 apple trees were planted, with 150 seedlings planted in the territory of the Almaty Zoo; and in the Bostandyk district, 230 apple trees were planted, including 150 seedlings in the First President's Park.
