The President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, participated as an honorary guest in the opening ceremony of the Doha Forum, as reported by the Akorda press service. This international event, which has been held since 2003, is themed this year as "Diplomacy, Dialogue and Diversity." Participants and guests of the forum are discussing pressing issues related to geopolitics, economic development, new technologies, artificial intelligence, energy, and food security, while also exchanging views on addressing key contemporary challenges.
The head of state took part in a special session formatted as a Newsmaker Interview and answered questions from the moderator, CNN journalist Julia Chatterley.
The President of Kazakhstan emphasized the importance of the effective functioning of the United Nations and the increasing role of middle powers.
“The UN, as a universal organization, is absolutely essential for humanity; there is no alternative. Unfortunately, major powers have not been able to make the global world safer. The current realities certainly raise significant concerns for many countries, including Kazakhstan. Therefore, the UN needs reform. We believe that bridges must be built between major powers, the absence of which has unfortunately led the Security Council into a deadlock. So-called middle powers, including Kazakhstan, can play a very important role in promoting peace and security both regionally and globally,” noted Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
The head of state also expressed his views on issues related to contradictions in global trade.
“In my opinion, trade conflicts, including tariff measures, are not the best solution; this is quite a dubious policy. Kazakhstan, as a member of the WTO, strictly adheres to all norms and rules of this important trade-economic organization. We do not support barriers and conflicts. Kazakhstan is not involved in such confrontations because we have constructive and mutually beneficial relationships with our regional neighbors and other states. Therefore, I believe that such problems do not threaten our part of the world. At the same time, we urge all major powers to refrain from using such pressure tools,” said the president.
Kassym-Jomart Tokayev answered questions regarding Kazakhstan's foreign policy, the resolution of the situation in Ukraine and the Middle East, as well as the role of youth in the development of our country.
