Turkestan will be granted special status.

A new law aimed at the city's development has been passed in the Majilis.
Turkestan will be granted special status.

During the plenary session of the Mazhilis of Parliament, Deputy Temir Kiryqbaev introduced a bill that establishes a special status for Turkestan, according to a correspondent from the Kapital.kz business information center.

“This law will create conditions for transforming Turkestan into the spiritual, cultural, historical, and tourist center of our country,” said Temir Kiryqbaev during the plenary session of the Mazhilis.

According to the deputy, the law includes the protection of historical monuments and the redistribution of powers between central and local authorities.

“We are also restricting construction around the Mausoleum of Khoja Ahmed Yasawi to preserve its uniqueness. Specifically, within a radius of 100 meters from the mausoleum's protected zone, the construction of structures taller than seven meters and incompatible with historical monuments is prohibited,” clarified Temir Kiryqbaev.

The law also includes support for national artisans, with reimbursement of costs ranging from 10% to 25% from the local budget. The Akimat of Turkestan will receive 27 additional powers, while the Maslikhat will receive seven.

As a result, the Mazhilis adopted the law "On the Special Status of the City of Turkestan" and accompanying amendments in the second reading.
