The Chairman of the Board of JSC "Kazakhtelecom," Bagdat Musin, held the first commercial meeting with representatives from Amazon Kuiper, reports the correspondent of the business information center Kapital.kz.
"We are actively monitoring the development of low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite systems. Recently, I met with representatives from Amazon Kuiper, who shared their plans to launch a constellation of over 3,200 satellites. It is expected that by 2026, 50% of them will be operational, providing global coverage," he wrote on his Telegram channel.
A key feature of Kuiper, as explained by Bagdat Musin, lies in its integration with Amazon's existing infrastructure, including AWS cloud services, which opens up new opportunities for combined solutions in communication and data processing. Additionally, the system will utilize advanced phased array antennas to enhance coverage efficiency and reduce interference. This direction is extremely interesting and holds great potential for such technologies in Kazakhstan.
"Our colleagues are already working on the possible adaptation of LEO services to our legislation and technological specifics. We are also exploring options for establishing a local point of presence, which could enhance service quality at the national level. Furthermore, we have opportunities to facilitate traffic exchange with Amazon Kuiper's autonomous system through our foreign nodes. Following all these studies, we conducted our first meeting on commercial matters. Special attention was given to the Kazakhstan market and how such technologies can help cover the most remote regions of the country, where stable internet is currently unavailable. Also, as a teaser, we plan to launch one of the most demanded services from Amazon Cloudfront soon, and I will write about this separately," he informed.
