A scientific and practical conference was held in Almaty to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of maslikhats.

The event was attended by the akim of Almaty, Yerbolat Dosaev, senators and members of the Almaty maslikhat, former secretaries of the maslikhat, as well as public and political figures. The city leader noted that over the past three decades, the role of maslikhats has significantly increased.

In 2022, at the initiative of the head of state, one of the most crucial political reforms was implemented. Following the national referendum, amendments to the Constitution were adopted, outlining specific measures to enhance the functioning of all branches of government, including local representative bodies.

In 2023, the elections for the Almaty maslikhat were held for the first time under new rules. The deputy corps was renewed by 67% and was formed based on a mixed principle: 50% from party lists and 50% from self-nominated candidates.

"Since 2022, we have adopted more than 20 strategic documents that define the systematic development of Almaty across all sectors. These include the rules for urban improvement, regulations for the maintenance and protection of green spaces, the program 'Unified Standard of Primary Health Care in Almaty until 2030,' the housing renovation program until 2030, construction regulations, urban planning regulations, and other documents. These important initiatives are the result of our collaborative active work in the permanent commissions and with the deputy factions of the maslikhat," said Yerbolat Dosaev.

The akim of the city further added that in the coming years, there is a crucial task of deep transformation to turn Almaty into one of the most modern megacities, characterized by a comfortable urban environment, a high level of security, and attractiveness for investments and talent from around the world.
