Central Asian countries are strengthening their ties to combat corruption effectively.

From October 30 to 31, an international conference took place in Astana, focusing on the accelerated implementation of the UN Convention against Corruption in Central Asia, as well as marking the 10th anniversary of the Anti-Corruption Service, reports DKnews.kz.

The event was organized by the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) in collaboration with the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Combating Corruption.

Participants in the conference included heads of anti-corruption agencies from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, members of Parliament, representatives from the Presidential Administration, diplomatic missions, international and public organizations, and government bodies. At the invitation of the Kazakh side, the Commissioner of the Independent Commission Against Corruption of Hong Kong attended the event.

The welcoming address from the Head of the Presidential Administration, A. Dadabai, was delivered by Deputy Head of the Law Enforcement System Department, A. Dyusembekov.

Greetings were also extended by the Regional Representative of UNODC for Afghanistan, Central Asia, Iran, and Pakistan, Oliver Stolpe; the Commissioner of the Independent Commission Against Corruption of Hong Kong, D.Vy; the Director of the Agency for State Financial Monitoring and Anti-Corruption of Tajikistan, S. Sultonzada; the Director of the Agency for Combating Corruption of Uzbekistan, A. Burkhanov; the Deputy Prosecutor General of Turkmenistan, A. Nyazlyev; and the Deputy Prosecutor General of Kyrgyzstan, N. Kaimov.

During the event, pressing issues regarding asset recovery, anti-corruption prevention, digitization, the involvement of civil society in corruption prevention, and strengthening cooperation were discussed.

In his speech, the Chairman of the Agency for Combating Corruption, Askat Jumagali, emphasized the importance of international cooperation, particularly in Central Asia.

A. Jumagali expressed gratitude to UNODC for its support and noted that the establishment of a Regional Platform would promote the development of new anti-corruption measures and strengthen interaction between countries.

The conference reaffirmed the commitment of Central Asian countries to strengthen international ties concerning legal assistance, extradition, and asset recovery.

Within the framework of the forum, the International Academy Against Corruption (Hong Kong) conducted training sessions on effective prevention methods, asset recovery, and financial investigation tactics.

The implementation of the UN Convention Against Corruption will continue under the Regional Platform, and Kazakhstan and other countries in the region will promote common principles of transparency, accountability, and integrity in society.
