For instance, pregnant women should avoid drinking excessive amounts of tea and should not brew it strong, as it contains caffeine and hinders the absorption of folic acid. For the same reason, it should not be consumed by individuals suffering from glaucoma or hypertension.
The primary substance in green tea (tannin) affects the level of iron in the body and also negatively impacts the absorption of calcium and magnesium. For this reason, the specialist recommends drinking green tea not during meals but an hour after. Additionally, tannin can irritate the mucous membrane. Consequently, green tea should be avoided by those who suffer from stomach ulcers or diseases of the duodenum.
