The number of 5G mobile subscribers worldwide increased by 163 million in the third quarter, reaching 2.1 billion, according to a report by Swedish telecommunications equipment manufacturer Ericsson, as reported by Interfax-Kazakhstan.

The company forecasts that by the end of 2024, this number will rise to approximately 2.27 billion. Thus, 5G subscribers will account for over a quarter of all mobile subscriptions globally.

It is anticipated that by 2030, the number will reach 6.35 billion, representing 67% of the total mobile subscriber base. Furthermore, 5G is expected to account for about 80% of mobile traffic.

Currently, around 320 providers offer 5G services worldwide.

Ericsson also predicts the rollout of the 6G standard by 2030.

The number of 4G subscribers decreased by 69 million in the third quarter, falling below 5.1 billion.
