The Italian company iGenius and chip developer Nvidia (NVDA) are joining forces to create a large-scale artificial intelligence system, according to Bloomberg. The parties announced plans to establish one of the world's largest data centers utilizing the latest Nvidia servers. The launch is scheduled for mid-2025. The data center will be located in southern Italy and will feature approximately 80 powerful Nvidia servers — GB200 NVL72. Each server will be equipped with 72 advanced Blackwell chips. A statement published on the Freedom Broker website did not disclose the project's cost.
iGenius CEO Ulyan Sharka revealed that his startup, one of the few in Europe valued at over $1 billion, secured €650 million in 2024. These funds will be allocated to the development of an artificial intelligence computing system named Colosseum. The company sells its software to banks, healthcare firms, and other sectors with stringent data security regulations. The models operate on the organizations' own infrastructure.
Several teams of software and hardware developers from Nvidia are working directly with iGenius on the launch of Colosseum. The model is expected to become one of the largest deployments of the American chipmaker's flagship servers in the world.
Leading analyst at Freedom Finance Global, Natalia Milchakova, notes that the uniqueness of the neural networks to be created by Colosseum lies in the fact that the new computing system will initially include parameters for cybersecurity, allowing it to protect the neural networks from hacking attacks. There are currently no analogs to the Colosseum system being developed by iGenius in collaboration with Nvidia, although it cannot be ruled out that similar systems are already being developed in China or other countries outside of the "big seven."
