Global spending on information technology (IT) is projected to grow by 9.3% in 2025, surpassing $5.7 trillion, according to research firm Gartner. This increase is partly driven by rising expenditures in the field of generative artificial intelligence (GenAI), as reported by Interfax-Kazakhstan.
"Starting in 2025, IT directors will begin allocating funds for GenAI," believes Gartner analyst John-David Lovelock, whose comments are included in the company's announcement.
For the current year, global IT spending is expected to rise by 7.2%, reaching $5.26 trillion. The previous forecast, published in July, anticipated an increase of 7.5%, up to $5.27 trillion. Expenditures on data centers (DCs) will see the fastest growth, increasing nearly 35% this year and 15.5% in 2025. This will be fueled by a sharp rise in server sales—from $134 billion in 2023 to $257 billion next year and $332 billion by 2028. IT services will remain the largest market, with a volume of approximately $1.6 trillion in 2024 and over $1.7 trillion in the following year.
"Our forecast suggests that spending will increase by $500 billion each year. Based on this, IT expenditures should exceed $7 trillion by 2028," predicts John-David Lovelock.
